Working Safely During Covid-19 Guidance

Viewing Policy:

General:

  • Virtual viewings of the property should be completed before the actual viewing.
  • Prior to an appointment, a call must be made to the occupants of the property and the applicants to ensure there have been no changes to their circumstances, i.e. that they are showing symptoms typical of Covid-19 infection.
  • No viewings should be carried out in a household which is isolating due to one or more family members showing symptoms or where an individual has been advised to shield.
  • For households where somebody is clinically vulnerable, but has not been asked to shield, e.g. where one of the occupants is over 70, prior arrangements should be made to avoid any face-to-face contact, for example, when answering the door. You should be particularly strict about handwashing, coughing and sneezing hygiene, such as covering your nose and mouth and disposing of single-use tissues.

Communicating with households prior to any visit to discuss how the viewing will be carried out to minimise risk for all parties:

  • Ask the occupants to vacate the property prior to the viewing commencing, maybe to sit in the garden or their car.
  • Ask the occupants to open all doors in the property to reduce the need to touch surfaces (use the door stops in your kit for heavier doors or stubborn doors that refuse to stay open).
  • Ask occupants to switch lights on in all rooms, again avoiding the need to touch surfaces.
  • Ask occupants to open windows and back doors to allow plenty of ventilation in the property.

During the viewing:

  • Homeowners are responsible for the overall cleanliness of the property, however we should give any areas touched a quick spray/wipe with disinfectant such as the doorbell or knocker and advise the occupants.
  • Take a personal bag to appointments - the bag should contain hand sanitizer, gloves, face mask, door stops, disinfectant wipes / spray & tissues.
  • Wear the office Personal Protective Equipment when meeting clients; particularly gloves and masks (Please note the masks supplied are not medical grade, therefore it is vital you maintain social distancing even with the mask on).
  • Applicants must wear a face covering and gloves on appointments and should be asked not to touch items in the property.
  • Always maintain the social distancing rule of 2 metres.
  • No more than two adults of any one household are allowed to view a property at any one time and should not be accompanied by any children.
  • Keep the viewing time involved as short as possible. Do not negotiate at the property or dawdle, view the property and encourage the applicants out as soon as possible. Conversations can be had over the phone later.
  • Routine property inspections and maintenance works to continue but only with the occupant’s consent and if the 2 metres apart rule can be observed.
  • No ‘open house’ viewings.
  • No driving to appointments with applicants; applicants must make their own travel arrangements.
