Area Information

Enfield Town is the historic centre of the London Borough of Enfield. The housing stock spans the centuries, from the Georgian houses of Gentleman’s Row to the ultra modern apartment block, Tower Point. While the area is predominantly made up of Victorian terraces, there is also a selection of larger detached Edwardian houses and some 1930s semis.

Amenities in the area are excellent; it boasts a broad range of shopping facilities, including Palace Gardens Shopping Centre, which houses a selection of big-name retailers. A market continues to trade in the historic Market Place offering goods ranging from fresh produce to household items. The pretty parish church, on the north side of the marketplace, has some masonry surviving from the 13th century.

To the west is Trent Country Park, a large area of open countryside broken up by woodlands and lakes, and a haven for the area’s wildlife.

Transport facilities include mainline stations at Enfield Chase, Enfield Town and Bush Hill Park. From Enfield Chase to Moorgate it takes 34 minutes. Enfield Town and the nearby Bush Hill Park stations both offer services to Liverpool Street, with 34-minute and 31-minute journey times respectively. The nearest tube is Southgate (Piccadilly Line).

The poet John Keats went to the progressive Clarke's School in Enfield. The school's building later became Enfield Town railway station until it was demolished in 1872. The current building was erected in the 1960s.
