Area Information

Southgate is a suburban area set between the London Boroughs of Barnet and Enfield. It’s about 10 miles north of central London. The area consists of several 1920s and 1930s housing estates, with a splattering of more modern buildings. The most sought after homes are in the Minchenden and Meadway Estates.

The area has a shopping centre with a variety of shops, including many of the well-known high street retailers and financial outlets. There’s also a large Asda superstore and a small Marks and Spencer, as well as a wide selection of smaller grocery and late night opening shops and food outlets.

To the north is the historical Trent Country Park offering lakes, grassland and a famous ancient wood, formerly the Royal Hunting Forest of Enfield Chase. It’s an area of genuinely beautiful countryside inside of the M25.

At its centre is the famous circular tube station, designed by Charles Holden in the Art Deco style. The flat roof of the raised central section appears to be impossibly supported by nothing more than a horizontal band of windows that provide daylight to the ticket hall. Southgate tube station is on the Piccadilly Line and is in Travelcard Zone 4. It’s approximately 20 minutes travel time to central London.
